Start with the employer’s instructions
Photo expectations vary by country, sector, and employer. Some applications explicitly request one; others discourage it. Read the vacancy and application form rather than assuming your local custom applies everywhere. ArtResume works with or without a photo, so the decision does not need to determine the rest of your layout.
Choose a clear, current portrait if useful
Use a simple background, even light, and a recognizable portrait. Avoid group pictures, heavy filters, and images from a social event. Crop to your face and shoulders without excessive zoom. Check the exported PDF to confirm the photo remains sharp. The editor resizes your photo locally before saving, which reduces browser storage use.
Keep the focus on relevant ability
A photo does not replace evidence of fit. Keep your skills, experience, and contact information easy to find. Do not add personal characteristics that the application does not request. When applying internationally, a photo-free version can be useful. Save a JSON backup before making variants, and review each version for the specific recipient.
