Explain why this role and this organization
A cover letter gives context that a CV cannot easily provide. Explain why this work interests you and which specific contribution you can make. Mention a relevant product, problem, or responsibility from the vacancy. Avoid praising an organization with generic sentences that could apply to any company. A few well-supported paragraphs are enough for most introductory applications.
Connect one example to their need
Choose an achievement already supported by your CV and explain its relevance. “Your role calls for clear customer documentation. In my previous team, I wrote a troubleshooting guide that reduced repeated questions.” Replace this illustrative example with your evidence. Do not repeat every CV bullet, introduce an unverifiable new result, or use a letter to hide an eligibility requirement.
Close clearly and proofread
Thank the reader and express interest in discussing the role. Use a clear subject line if applying by email and attach the requested documents. Check the organization’s name, role title, recipient, and attachments before sending. ArtResume currently builds CVs; this guide helps you draft a letter separately. Keep a copy of the exact letter and CV used in each application.
